International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL)

The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory is an intergovernmental organization founded in 2005 by a joint agreement between the governments of Portugal and Spain. Headquartered in Braga, northern Portugal, INL operates within an international legal framework to conduct interdisciplinary research and implement nanotechnologies for the benefit of society. This twin approach guides the organisation to navigate the unknown universe of science and to identify new research areas at the intersection of established knowledge fields.

INL focuses on strategic research areas that deepen our understanding of fundamental phenomena, serving as the basis for the development of innovative technologies. By progressing through the innovation pipeline, these technologies aim to address current global challenges, aligning with the priorities outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Today, INL hosts a multicultural community of more than 400 researchers from 30 nationalities with various scientific backgrounds

Main tasks and responsibilities within the project

In WP2, INL will develop a demonstrator of novel metal-deposition process that can offer beneficial features for various applications where metal structures having challenging aspect ratios need to be microfabricated. This technology has been developed in the iMOCO4.E project (https://www.imoco4e.eu/) and INL is now seeking broader exploitation opportunities for it.

INL is leading WP3 on “Knowledge Transfer on Innovation Cycle”. Specifically, WP3 includes activities related to improved knowledge transfer and technology uptake in the Widening regions; exploitation and diffusion of R&I results into the market in line with national/regional smart specialisation priorities; training and information to provide researchers with insights into future career possibilities in sectors outside higher education and research organizations (science, policy, industry, society). INL is responsible for Task 3.1 subtask on “Innovation Strategy Sessions including training on business need analysis” and Task 3.3 on “Research ethics, regulation and standardization”.

INL is also leading WP4 on “Reinforced Innovation Skills”. Specifically, WP4 has objectives to strengthen a European partnership involving Regional Sustainable Development, to connect DemosAxia partners into a European Innovation Ecosystem, by gaining insight on diverse and shared ambitions, experiences and practices. WP4 will facilitate the development of a common approach and exchange knowledge across languages and borders, disciplines and sectors, of researchers, students, regional stakeholders, entrepreneurs and community organizations.

In WP5, INL is responsible for Task 5.4 on “Development and Re-assessment of Business Model”. In WP6, INL is responsible for Task 6.2 on “Development and implementation of a publication strategy” and Task 6.3 on “IP/knowledge management and protection”.
